Welcome to flåttkart.no

Welcome to flåttkart.no – a website where anyone can report tick observations on humans and pets/other animals.

The data collected will, over time, provide valuable information about the geographical distribution of the castor bean tick (Ixodes ricinus) in Norway, seasonal variations, and an indication of areas with high or low risk of tick bites. You can report tick observations on yourself, on dogs or cats – or on wildlife, which may be relevant, for example, for hunters. Reports can include ticks that have attached themselves or ticks crawling on skin, clothing, or fur. It is also possible to upload a picture of the tick.

This project was funded by NorthTick, an Interreg/EU project under the European Regional Development Fund and the North Sea Region Program 2014–2020. The Norwegian National Advisory Unit on Tick-borne Diseases (Flåttsenteret) was a partner in NorthTick from 2019 to 2023.

Flåttkart.no was launched in 2022, and more than 15,000 tick observations have been reported so far (as of March 2025). As more observations are collected, the platform will provide residents with information about areas in Norway with high or low tick activity. The purpose of this citizen science project is to create an interactive tick map for Norway based on data submitted by the community. To ensure the broadest and most up-to-date mapping of tick observations, we hope as many people as possible will contribute to the project.

All submissions are completely anonymous, and no personal data is stored. As a result, no feedback will be provided.

With just a few clicks, you can easily register your tick observations. The tick map is updated daily.

  • Click on “Report a tick”
  • Enter an address or click directly on the map
  • Enter the date of the observation
  • Indicate whether the tick was found on a human and/or animal. Record the number of ticks that were attached or crawling on skin/clothing/fur
  • Add a photo of the tick (optional)
  • Click Send
